Last month D and I took a wonderful belated 15th anniversary trip to Maui. I’ve been having a hard time typing anything here because I keep scrolling through the below pictures wanting to relive the amazing time we had. I want to go back.
For many years we had talked about doing something special for the milestone anniversary. Hawaii was a place that was always mentioned, but we weren’t sure we could pull it off. But last May, when thinking about where we would most like to go, Maui just kept coming back to mind. We knew we wanted to go somewhere in January, we wanted guaranteed warm weather, and we wanted a mixture of adventuring and relaxing. So we went for it. We booked our condo and our flights and started planning for 8 nights of tropical fun during the coldest time of the Minnesota calendar to celebrate 15 years.
Maui did not disappoint. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. It was the perfect balance of activity and rest. The beaches were pristine, with golden sand and the clearest blue water. Our condo sat right on the ocean and provided the most spectacular views. There were whales, and lots of them. We watched one swim under our boat and watched them wave to us from a rafting whale watch. We watched them from our lanai, along with surfers and wind surfers. We ate really really good food and drank lots of yummy drinks. We drove on the Road to Hana, twisty curve after twisty curve, and saw rainbow eucalyptus and drove through jungles. We hiked through the most amazing bamboo forrest to an incredible waterfall. We drove along the back side of a dormant volcano with the convertible down. We drank coffee as the sun rose and watched sunset after sunset. We snorkeled and we lounged. We were pampered at a spa and made friends with a bartender. We had the best time together.
I’m so grateful for 9 days away with my forever boyfriend. I think what’s so great is that I just love hanging out with him. We had an amazing time exploring and relaxing and enjoying each other’s company and I’m incredibly blessed to do life with him by my side.
Here are the photos from our trip. I didn’t go crazy with taking photos as I didn’t want a camera up to my face the whole trip, plus they don’t really do Maui justice. It’s such a big and beautiful place and my camera just can’t capture it all. See if you can spot the tiny whale tail. :)
