her holiday card

Every year at our kids’ school, the fifth graders can choose to participate in a holiday card contest.  They design a card and then turn it into the art teacher, who then chooses 24 cards to print and sell for a fundraiser for the school.  Of-course, this was right up Evie’s alley, so she designed a card.

She thought of the idea all on her own….a drawing of Leo with a Santa hat and the words “Happy Howlidays” above it.  She took a photo of Leo and then drew his cute little head freehand and colored it in with colored pencils.  I’m still amazed at the detail she captured in his eyes.  She entered her card into the contest and found out a week later that her card was one of 24 chosen to be printed and sold.  I wish I would have taken a photo of her face when she learned the news.

Last night we had the opportunity to visit a local coffee shop for a “Meet the Artist” night for cookies and cocoa.  The artwork of all the students who had cards made of their art will be displayed there until mid-January.  A pretty big deal for a 10 year old.

I’m so proud of our sweet girl.  We think she’s pretty amazing.

Heather M. - Oh wow! She is so incredibly talented! I love how she drew so much emotion in the eyes. Amazing! You must be so proud.

tracey - I love this. And you are right about the eyes!

Jean - I think she is amazing, too! This is so awesome! Good for her and congratulations, Evie!!! I love Leo’s eyes and the way she drew in his hair!

Keep up the great work, Evie! You will go far with your talent!!!
