sunday at their house

I feel like a broken record, so please forgive me, but I can’t help myself.  I adore home sessions.  I love everything about them.  I love capturing a family in their natural environment, doing what they naturally do, capturing natural smiles and real life.  I love having kids proudly show off their rooms. I love toddlers who talk my ear off, not even noticing that I’m taking their photo while they do so.  I love the sweetness of a one year old in mama’s arms with no props, no “look at the camera and smile!”.  I love spending an evening with a family while they do what they normally do….play in their yard, walk the dogs, go to the park, have a treat on the porch, give monster hugs.

In our pre-session correspondences, the mom of this crew said something that stuck out to me.  She warned me that their house is nothing fancy, a work in progress, imperfect.  I quickly responded and said that their house is PERFECT because it’s their home that holds their family.  There isn’t another home like it.  Not one with the same artwork displayed, the same lights strung from the porch, the same handmade quilt, the same swing hanging from the maple in the backyard, the same crib and playhouse that were crafted by dad.  And definitely not one with the same cute kids and loving parents.  It’s worth capturing.  All of it.

Here is their picture story (set to music by Israel Kamakawimo’ole)…
