Darin and I were trying to think of just how many years it’s been. How many years I’ve been meeting him in Chicago after his yearly work conference. How many years we’ve visited the Bean, gone out for dinner, and explored the city together. I had to go back to my old blog to check. Five years. This was year number five of my Chicago date with my boyfriend.
It wasn’t in the plans this year. After all, we just got back from a trip to California. Did we really need another little getaway so soon? A flight out for me was cheap and we had family willing to help with the kids, I also had a friend I really wanted to see. So we jumped at it.
I’ll admit I had my reservations. But I talked to one of my girlfriends the day before I left and she reminded me of the importance of getting away with your partner, and not to feel guilty about it (even if it had not even been two months since our last getaway), and that the opportunity was there so we needed to take advantage of it (she’s awesome). Sure, we could have saved our money for something else, but I’ve learned that investing in our marriage is one of the most valuable things we can do. And let’s face it, I look forward to this trip every year and I didn’t want to skip it!
Eating wonderful food and walking the city with D are always the highlight. And of-course, the Bean. On this night we ate dinner early and walked through Millennium Park as the very last of the light was disappearing behind the Chicago skyline. The blue sky was so beautiful and I once again got carried away in shooting the popular tourist attraction.
I’m so grateful we were able to make it work for year number five. I’m already looking forward to year number six.
