Today she turned eight. How is it that eight sounds so much older than seven?
She woke up before 6:00. Not surprising, my early bird. She got dressed and then eventually pried me out of bed to make cinnamon rolls for breakfast. She read in my bed before changing into her swimming suit for her request of the day, swimming at the Lifetime pool. She did somersaults in the water and went down the slide over and over again. She wanted me to watch her do handstands under water. She had a permanent smile on her face. We came back home and she played with her friends in the front yard, enjoying a freezie and then discovering a bird’s nest under our deck. She would pop in every now and then to get something out of her craft cupboard, always creating. Daddy came home from work and she ran and gave him a big hug, and then Nana arrived and she did the same. Supper and playing at the park while Eli was at T-ball. Making friends, always making friends. Walking hand in hand with Nana back to the van. Presents and cake. She wanted to bake her own cake this year and decorate it herself. We then sat on the deck and watched Eli and Dad through tennis balls to Leo on this beautiful perfect summer night. For my perfect birthday girl. I snuggled with her before bed and got all teary eyed as I talked about how her birthday is so special to me because it reminds me of what a precious gift she is. She said, “I love you mama”, and then gave me a sweet kiss on my lips.
We love you Evelyn Grace. Happy Birthday. You are our creative and compassionate girl and we couldn’t be more proud of you. You are a gift.
